Happy day! Hope you all are having an AMAZING day! Today I decided to write about a part of my lifestyle that you may or may not know about!?
For almost 2 years now, I have been dating long distance with a military man. Before we get in to the 5 things my boyfriend Trey and I do in order to keep our relationship successful, I wanted to give a super quick background story about us!?
Background of How we met!?
My Boyfriend Trey’s family, and my family have known each other for a very long time! (Before we were both even born). The reason being is, we grew up in a small neighborhood in Oklahoma City , to were everyone pretty much knows everybody! So, it was only a matter of time that my boyfriend and I would eventually meet!?
Stating this, we met around the age of 3 years old, we went to each others birthday parties, played games, and did all the childhood fun things a child would potentially do everyday! So to sum it up again, we became best friends, and always have had history together!
Fast forward to NOW, we eventually along the way decided to date, and it happens to be long distance! So with out further ado lets get into how we make it work and stay strong!?
As with any thing you should definelty have communication and set EXPECTATIONS with your Significant other! It is important to communicate to each other what you want, your needs, and most importantly how you feel about certain things.
It is important when setting expectations to note when you will be busy, or when and IF you want to designate certain days for things like movie nights, etc.
Its important to value each others time when you do decide to face time, or talk on the phone because after all , you are in a long distance relationship.
It is important to make each other truly feel as much apart of your lives as POSSIBLE, even though you are temporarily a part!
This is a HUGE key to not only a long distance relationship , but in ANY relationship for that matter!
It is important to be able to listen to one another needs, and try to understand each others situation at that time! Whether its a career move, family, or just plain and simple you need to VENT!
It is important that you understand that you both will need your space sometimes.. And thats normal, and perfectly okay!
Just as with any relationship, you will eventually need your space to hang out either by yourself or with your girls, and vice versa for your mans as well!
Do not think a closed mouth is going to get fed!?
Basically.. If you are MAD at something? Or simply craving Attention? Or what ever the case maybe? JUST SAY IT! If the person you are with doesn’t respect your honesty,or your feelings in general.. You may be with the WRONG person!? (Just a thought!)
Find interest in each others Interest!?
If your mans like video games, try it out? If I like to travel or play golf, he should try it out! I think another GREAT thing me and Trey do is find interest in each others interests. I will play video games with him sometimes, or go ride motorcycles with him, or go shooting at the gun range. And he will go shopping with me, go play golf with me, or try new places with me, or EVEN watch my girly TV shows. I can count on him to be down to with me, and he can as well! I honesty love that! I feel it helps us continue to grow together, and even if we don’t like it necessarily, its important to just be there, and show your support because you love them!
What is your PLAN!?
Eventually, there is going to be a time where you will have to have a conversation of what your future plans are together?!
Do you plan to stay long distance , and keep visiting monthly for another year? Or do you plan to find another career path closer to you Significant other? Around this time, you will DEFINETLY have a lot to think about, and discuss together.
Ultimately, I feel a long distance relationships is so normal nowadays! I feel like it is SOO important to visit one another, and do NOT just stay hidden by staying virtual, or talking on the phone everyday. It is so important to go try and get as much of a feel for one another as possible.
